RESEARCH, FELLOWSHIPS AND INNOVATION

Innovation

From the laboratory to the design of health-improving products

The CaixaImpulse programme transforms scientific knowledge generated in the laboratory into products capable of creating value for society. This is achieved through start-ups and also technology transfer agreements, such as licensing.

The programme is supported by Caixa Capital Risc and the European Institute of Technology (EIT Health).
The programme has promoted 102 initiatives, of which 32 have become spin-offs.
CaixaImpulse transforms the scientific knowledge emerging from laboratories into products of value to society.
CaixaImpulse also offers researchers specific training.

This annual report explains the link between the programmes of ”la Caixa” Foundation and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Highlights

Achievements in 2019

Under the name of Consolidate, in 2019 CaixaImpulse launched a call for a second type of proposal: grants aimed at biomedical innovation projects at a later development stage. On the other hand, Validate grants, which started in 2015, are given to incipient projects that have yet to define their valorisation plan. Although both types of grant are aimed at biomedical institutions, in the case of Consolidate, projects that form part of spin-offs are also accepted as long as they are led by hospitals, universities or non-profit research centres. Grants are for up to €300,000.
